我相信，我們可以 Yes, we can !

閱讀、旅行、辯論、愛情、家庭、工作、社群網站和網路遊戲的共同點是，
我們都在其中找到歸屬感與認同，
被說服並沒什麼大不了，不被認同也不是天大的錯誤，
我們都站在情理法的一端拉鋸著。

Reading, traveling, public debate, relationship, family, work, social network and online games have one thing in common, in which we're looking for a sense of belonging and identity.

Being convinced is not a big deal. Not being accepted doesn't mean you’re wrong.

We all stand at one side of the libra in emotions, reasons and the law.

死刑的存在與否，大麻與性交易是否該合法管理，同志是否有結婚權，核四要不要繼續蓋，台灣能不能邁向民主與獨立，物價上漲薪水為何縮水，都不只是我們表面看見的那樣。
如果今天我們是個和諧安詳的"真-大同世界"，
那麼死刑、大麻、性交易的合法存在，似乎就不是那麼關鍵了；
同志與多元家庭，即使全世界都反對，它還是會一直存在；
環境與經濟發展的平衡，得先搞清楚我們究竟爭的是財團與政府的利益，
還是人民的幸福感、舒適生活與健康。

Absence of the death penalty, legal marijuana and prostitution, gay marriage, nuclear power, inflation, salary reduction, even Taiwan's movement towards democracy and independence, are not mere yes-no questions as we thought.

If we were in a harmonious and peaceful, wonderful "Utopia", then we wouldn't have a debate on the death penalty, marijuana, and prostitution.

Gay couples and rainbow-families, even if the whole world is against them, they're always there;

In order to keep a balance between environmental and economic development, we must figure out what we're fighting for, the interests of the international enterprise and the government, or the people's happiness, comfortable life and health.

我們的現實生活並不完美，我們的價值觀也並非毫無瑕疵，
於是我們為了各自的理念據理力爭，唇槍舌戰，甚至不惜走上街頭抗爭，
在閱讀與旅行中找到新的想法與資訊，在辯論中我們同時思考彼此關心的著眼點，
在愛情、家庭與事業中，找到自己的定位與甜蜜的負擔，
在社群網站和網路遊戲中，輕易地得到一些單純的滿足與成就感，
畢竟身為一名戰士要作的事情就只有打人和被打，
只要很能打或者很能被打就是個好戰士，其他的問題沒有人在乎。

Life is not perfect. It never will be. Neither are our values.

So we have to fight for our ideas, in the war of words, even at the protest on the streets.

To find new ideas and information in reading and traveling, we also think about the debate geared towards different points of view,

In a relationship, family and career, we find the sweetest burden and our own place,

In social networking sites and online games, we can easily get some satisfaction and sense of accomplishment,

After all, as a warrior in MMORPG, I only focus on dealing and taking damages,

As long as I can survive from the battle, my raid members don't mind my own business.

我真的很慶幸，近年來我們討論了這些問題，即使多數時候我們的立場並不相同，
但是我們都開始思考，企圖探求表層之外的部分，
試著擺脫過去理所當然的觀念，試著質疑專家、權威、政府的言論，
試著在強烈的情緒下，聆聽彼此不同的聲音，
於是我們發現資訊不對等造成的損失，發現和諧社會底下隱藏的汙穢，
發現高舉正義旗幟、道貌岸然的人們大放厥詞的是巨大的謊言與誤導，
然後我們明白，其實人命並不值錢，
即使倫理教育告訴我們生命無價，你我並不在乎每天有多少孩子餓死在路邊，
或者在非洲沒有路燈的地方，一場交通事故又撞死了什麼人。

I am really happy that we have discussed these issues in recent years, even though most of the time our opinions are not the same.

But we have already started thinking, having an attempt to explore the deeper part from the surface,

Trying to get rid of the concept of the past , trying to question the experts , the authority, and the government's remarks,

We're trying to control our emotions and listen to each other.

So we find the loss caused by unequal information, and the nasty truth hidden beneath harmonious society.

We also found out that those pious people who hold high the banner of justice, are talking nonsense, enormous and misleading lies.

Then we finally understand that sometimes life is cheap and funerals are free.

Actually we've been told life is priceless, but still we don't care that there are children starving to death every day and in some places, there are no street lights; many people are killed by accident at night.

如果用金錢來衡量，生命真的是廉價得可以。
於是，死刑其實是種便宜行事的法子，沒有後續發展，被害家屬無話可說，
當政府只想便宜行事的時候，這真的是一種殘酷無情的作法，
殺死犯人，給被害家屬一點錢，故事結束，
就像在奈及利亞撞死人，賠個幾百美金給家屬，就大事化小那樣的不可思議。

If measured by money, life can be really cheap.

Thus, the death penalty is actually a double-blade sword, there is no follow-up process, and the families of the victims have no more reasons to complain or ask for help.

When the government acts at its discretion, death penalty seems really ruthless.

They kill the prisoners, pay some money to the families of the victims, and put an  end to the case.

Another example, in Nigeria, when some people were killed in an accident, the victim’s families were only paid a few hundred dollars. What an incredible deal !

死刑的存在與否，真的不是那麼重要，
更重要的是被害人的需要與社會觀感，
陪審團制度也許不能解決所有問題，但是至少民眾有機會干涉國家機器的運作，
然而，沒人有空推廣陪審團，現在有更重要的新聞話題要討論，是吧？
如果就只是拘泥於壞人該不該死，每年花多少稅金養這些垃圾，
試圖激起社會輿論同仇敵愾的情緒，那豈不是把一個改變的機會給作小了？
當我們變得不理性，當我們走錯了方向，
所有的優點和能力，都只會帶領我們加速毀滅。

The existence of the death penalty is really not so important.

More importantly, is the needs of victim’s families and social perception.

The jury system may not solve all problems, but at least people have a chance to interfere with the operation of the state apparatuses.

However, no one has the time to promote the jury system yet. There is always something new to be discussed, isn't there?

If we only talk about whether the criminals should be put to death or not, and how much we spend each year for the jail to arouse public opinion.

It would be a pity that we're losing the chance to make things better.

When we become irrational and moving in the wrong direction,

All our effort and capabilities will only accelerate the destruction.

那些炒得沸沸揚揚的新聞話題，說穿了，不過就是"我們值得一個更好的生活環境"。
人民要的真的就只是這些小確幸，
我們想要一個便利的城市，穩定的工作與合理的薪資，
安全、健康、綠意盎然的生活環境，生命財產的基本保障，
老有所終、壯有所用、幼有所長的社會福利制度，
資訊交流與言論自由，擁有一個溫暖舒適的家與互相扶持的家人。
一個真正民主與獨立的國家，不是打打嘴砲就能建立，
而且所有人真心期望，並且用行動來證明，
我們確實可以逐步打造一個更美好的福爾摩莎。

我相信，我們可以，而且我們已經走在這條路上。

Those hot issues, in fact, are nothing but "we deserve a better life".

What the people really need is just this little happiness.

We want a convenient city, a job with reasonable salary.

We want a safe, healthy, green environment.
We want the protection of life and property.

We want provision made for the aged till their death, the adults given employment and the young enabled to grow up under a fine social welfare system.

We want freedom of exchanging information and expressing our ideas.

We want to be equal in dignity and rights.

We want a warm and cozy house with our family members.

A truly democratic and independent country is built up not only from words, but also by actions.

Step by step, we can gradually make our homeland a better place which is called

Formosa or Taiwan.

I believe that we can, and we're already on our way.
